Once again I was invited to improvise music background for a poetic soiree @ Hipnoza. This time i was asked to organize a small ensemble, which eventually consist of Paulina Owczarek, Michal Dymny and me. Wiktor Krzak was about to play with us on a bassoon, but unfortunately it turned out that the day of performance is not suitable for him, as he had to play with his orchestra… Unfortunately there’s no recordings from that performance.

Prada Meinhoff @ Kontener Art

Justyna Kowalska recently wrote monodrama about Baader-Meinhoff group, Red Army Fraction and all that crazy time after 1968… She decided as well, to direct it, and perform it. I was invited to write the music, however I have to say, we did that together – i mean even in this part of work, she was very active. All the music was played lived on stage, partly improvised. The premiere was on 27th of october @ KontenerArt in Poznan.

Wino by Krzysztof Szafraniec

Piotrek Pawlus rang me one day in august and asked, if i’m fancy doing sound for animation, created by his friend Krzysiek Szafraniec for an exam at PWSFTViT in Lodz. There was quite a lot stuff to do, because i wanted to record/create all the sound by myself. First problem was the sea – i wasn’t able to go for a trip to record it, so i rang Michal Dymny, who was at the time on vacation at seaside. The second thing was the crow – i started to think about asking some ornithologist, where i can easily record them… but eventually i used freesound.org. So one background and one detail weren’t my author’s sounds.
Morphe by Herman Muntzing
Maj 29th, 2010 § 1 comment § permalink
At the end of may Herman Muntzing – after playing on Audio Art – conducted kind of workshops at CSW Solvay, during which we perfomed his composition called Morphe. It’s a typical aleatoric composition: all the musician has pile of cards with words like: slow, fast, loud, silence, follow etc…, which suggest him what to play. The interpretation was free – on the silence card, we could be quiet, however it was rather prefered to play silence. On the follow, we should choose another musician to follow (whatever it means – play the same? be just behind?) We made two takes – in first one, everyone was changing his cards whenever he felt like he want to change, and in the second one, everyone had to change his cards in proper time: like after every 45 seconds, 60 seconds, 90 seconds, 120 seconds. So from time to time, we change altogether, and sometimes it was crossed.
Herman Muntzing – electronics
Keir Neuringer – saxophone
Michal Dymny – electric guitar
Piotr Zyla – electric bass

And the unexpected finish, when the manager of Solvay came and quietly tried to inform „Mr. Michal… transport is waiting…”, as Michal was about to play at the Museum just afterwards. Herman had then follow card, so he started to repeat his words, and the Michal’s words…

Amfitrion @ Stary Teatr Kraków

The story how i get onto theatrical scene as a musician is rather not typical. Dominik Strycharski was searching for a musician, who’ll play live on stage music, he was then composing for a play Amfitrion. He was thinking about guitarist and someone suggest him to speak with Michal Dymny. Completely by accident I was around during their meeting. Somehow we got to idea, that i can also be useful to play together with Michal – i could do the live electronics and Michal would play the guitar. Eventually just before the rehearsals Dominik got to the point, that he actually has composed mainly electronic music, so he doesn’t need the guitarist on stage. That’s how from kind of additional musician I became the only musician in this play…. fortunately Michal wasn’t angry on me.
